I’m assuming you’re keeping it confined to music of the “electronic” style. In which case: Afrika Bambaataa.

    Geez, duh.

    What, no Boston!?

  4. Kevin Says:

@kibibu: As Darius observed, I try to stick with EDM/IDM on these lists. Partly because that’s the theme of the site, and partly to make them more challenging. (Although I’m flexible about it because, you know, no one cares.) If we’re going mainstream, how about: Chicago, Boston, Asia, Europe, America. (Hey, we could almost go with all continents.)

@Darius: Making his omission even more egregious, yesterday was actually AB’s 51st birthday.

    Wow, how… disrespectful!

  6. Gillian Says:

Instead of mainstream, you could do five indie bands with geographical names:

    Architecture in Helsinki
    Beirut
    Calexico
    Maximo Park
    Of Montreal

Interesting side note: I do not, in point of fact, listen to any of the above bands. I think I’ve heard songs by all of them though. Maybe?
