This time I have a good excuse
If you were curious about the dearth of updates recently, I was preoccupied with travel. I just completed a move from Norfolk, VA to San Francisco. For our European readers, that’s about as far as from Brussels to St. Petersburg, except it’s twice as far.
As nooj and I discussed recently, imposing limitations on yourself can paradoxically unlock creativity. If that’s the case, then I’m about to produce the best music of my life, because this is all the kit I could squeeze into my suitcase:
However, I clearly moved to the right neighborhood: I spotted an HR824 in the back seat of someone’s car today.

I just moved to a new apartment (granted, only a seven mile move) and have been setting up my little studio. I’ve had one or two pieces of equipment set up over the last three years but this will be the first time everything is nicely arranged and hooked up in such a way that I can really have any workflow to speak of.

That makes all the difference in the world.
My new apartment is pretty small so I’m going to have to completely rethink my setup (once the rest of my gear gets shipped out). Which is too bad, because I had a nice space in VA.

That better be Buzz you’re using there man, but that picture is a little too small to be sure.. though it doesn’t quite look like it… *grrrrrr*.
Oh yes, and that creativity thing can be so true. Too many options leave you with too much time to waste on choices. If there are no choices to be made, only music can be made. Or you can always procrastinate of course.

It’s … shhhhhh … ableton. I have Buzz on the lappy as well, never fear! I was experimenting with using the padKontrol as a DJ controller, and Live is pretty well suited to that.

I’ll attest to that! In my case the capacity to write music has been inversely proportional to the amount of gear I have collected. It’s a tragedy… Currently thinking of selling off most of my hardware and finding a C64 someplace (if you’ve got more than three tracks, you’re not trying).
Anyway.. Wow, San Fran huh! Most unexpected, but really neat. Don’t forget about us over in old-USA ! (and thanks for making it out to my thing that time)
